Could health problems force the Broncos Head Coach to retire?
There has been plenty of speculation and rumors surrounding the Denver Broncos Head Coach Gary Kubiak’s future with the team. Kubiak isn’t in danger of being fired, but health problems could force Kubiak into retirement.
Now this is all speculation and rumors right now, but Kubiak failed to squash those rumors today during his final press conference of the season. He was asked about his desire to continue coaching and Kubiak was noncommittal with his answer.
“Yes, you know that I love this league. I love the Broncos. I love to work. I’m all in on the Raiders right now. There will be time for reflection and all of that stuff next week, but right now it’s time to focus on what we’re doing.”
A simple “Yes, I plan on returning” or something like that would have killed these rumors and such, but he just added a little more fuel to the fire.
As we know, Kubiak had to leave the team after their week six loss to the Atlanta Falcons in an ambulance after he suffered a complex migraine. This, unfortunately, isn’t the first time Kubiak has had a serious health scare on the sideline. Back in 2013 while he was the Head Coach of the Houston Texans, he suffered a mini-stroke while on the field. So after another serious health scare, could Kubiak decide to walk away from the game?
It’s something people around the league are reportedly watching according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.

Breer says Kubiak was content in Baltimore as the team’s Offensive Coordinator and was not looking to be a Head Coach again. However, when John Fox was fired and his buddy John Elway came calling, the opportunity to return to Denver and coach quarterback Peyton Manning, it was too good for Kubiak to pass up.
Now that Kubiak has a Super Bowl ring as the Head Coach of the Broncos, could Kubiak decide to walk away after his latest health scare earlier in the season? Breer says it is “something people are kinda keeping an eye on right now. Could he(Kubiak) potentially walk away?”
It is something to keep an eye on this weekend to see if anything is reported before or after Sunday’s game against the Raiders. These things tend to leak out before they’re officially announced anyways.
Now this is pure speculation on my part, but could the reason why Broncos current Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips hasn’t re-signed is because he knows Gary is stepping away from the Broncos?
It’s going to be an interesting Monday for the Broncos regardless of what Kubiak decides to do. So stay tuned Broncos fans, as usual, there is always some sort of drama in the offseason for the Broncos.
